Sleep and Mental Health— Non wels

with Dr. Yishan xu

TODAY’S GUEST

Nōn Wels, founder of the You, Me, Empathy podcast, a safe, stigma-free space for people to share their mental health stories. It’s been one of the most rewarding and life-changing experiences of his life.

In May 2020, he launched The Feely Human Collective—a space for all us, together, to celebrate our feelings, to grow our capacity for emotional insight, to engage in vulnerability without shame, to collaborate over a shared vision in a more feely world.

WHAT WILL WE LEARN

What is it like to live with mental disorders? Can you recover from it? Non shares his story, and his vision of building a safe space for others to battle with mental health stigma.

·      What is it like to live with mental disorder?

·      Are we able to recover from it?

·      What is the connection between sleep and our mental health?

Sleep has an impact on our mental health. If we think we have sleep problems we tend to have more mental health issues, anxiety depression, aggression.

We must show empathy and acceptance for ourselves before we can show it to others. It is a skill that we must practice. It is not easy. Discomfort is where we will learn the most, we must be patient with ourselves.

An important part of empathy is letting go of ego and leading with heart. Don’t judgment or being defensive. We are all humans worthy of love and acceptance. Challenge your our own bias’. We all have them. Be willing to learn from a different perspective.

You are enough and not alone. Accept yourself, you are good, capable.

Healing can come from a variety of sources and no one way is correct for everyone. Some sources include:

·      One on one or group therapy

·      Expressing your feeling through art

·      Educating yourself by reading book

·      Talking with someone
